Story

PAPYRUS is the national Charity for the Prevention of Young Suicide. Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 in the UK, in 2018 over 1800 young people took their own lives. PAPYRUS provides confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide, and anyone worried about a young person through their helpline, HOPELINEUK. Every £5 raised can help pay for a life-saving contact to HOPELINEUK. Your donations really are lifesaving, thank you.

What started as a “never in a million years am I going to get a place or be able to run it” ended “what does your in mean?”

In October I will (hopefully) be running the London Marathon.

There was a never a doubt in my mind that If I got a place who I’d pick as my charity.

PAPYRUS is an incredible charity for the prevention of young suicide. Suicide is the biggest killer of under 35s in the UK.

Given the current circumstances there are more young people feeling, anxious, depressed and suffering from mental health issues is on the rise. Now more than ever do young people need support.

This is not the only reason I chose this charity. I was lucky enough to have known Sophie Airey and her incredible family. Sophie sadly took her life in December 2018, her family have used there strength and love to raise awareness for PAPYRUS Andy’s run for Sophie’s inspired me. That if that old man can get out and run a half marathon I could run a full one. I plan to honour the Airey family’s strength, courage and determination through this event. The impact they have had on mine and my families life is something I’m forever grateful for.
