Story
Hello!
I’m running London Marathon! I was supposed to run last year, unfortunately didn’t quite recover from a torn hamstring, but am (currently) injury free and am running this October! I wanted to use it to raise a bit of money for some new sports equipment for TAG Youth Club for Disabled young people.
I could not shout louder about how great the work TAG youth club do. Through a mix of regular meetings and short breaks, they provide a huge range of educational, social and personal opportunities for young people with a disability between the ages of 8-25 in the Kingston and Richmond area. For young people who find it challenging to access mainstream activities, it's a lifeline to have a club where they can mix with their peers and do fun activities - my brother Owen (now 21) has been attending TAG since he was 9 and found himself a really good group of friends.
TAG rely entirely on grants, fundraising and donations, luckily they have been able to continue to hold meetings and support young people throughout the pandemic, however, like many others, they have not been able to run the same level of fundraising activities - such as bag packing, summer stalls and the Christmas collections.
For those interested, this is my first full marathon. After all last years injuries my main goal is just to get to the start line injury free, though would be happy with anything sub 4 hours. To up the challenge from last year, I’m also doing a 2.4 mile swim in Dorney Lake late September, an ultra marathon on the Jurassic Coast mid-October (and half marathons on the other weekends of October 😅).
