Just4Children need funds to support Isla Rose following her SDR surgery. She needs therapies, treatments and specialist equipment to help her lead the life she deserves.

Story

Just4Children need funds to support Isla Rose have the therapies and treatments she needs to help her lead the life she deserves.

The ((BOUNCE)) Marathon will be a mini trampoline fitness event. 4 different classes from 9am-1pm. Take part in as little or as much as you like. I will be holding a raffle and raising as much as we can to support Isla.

Isla-Rose is aged 6 from Lowton in Wigan. Our beautiful little girl Isla was born with an infection called CMV (cytomegalovirus) that has left her with brain damage and developmental delay, causing cerebral palsy.

Isla cannot walk, mainly uses Makaton and finds it difficult to communicate with family and friends. Our brave girl has overcome many things since birth such as losing her sight and hearing. The past 6 years have consisted of physiotherapy, appointments, brain scans, treatment, heartache and a lot of set backs!

She has medication 4 times a day to help with the stiffness in her muscles that she has been on for around 3 years.

The NHS have been absolutely amazing with Islas progress and have supported us since birth, but there just isn’t enough funding for what the physios and consultants are telling us Isla needs in order for her to walk.

So, we have made the choice to go private to give Isla the best chance of getting on her feet. She has splints for her legs to support her ankles when standing as she can’t weight bare and needs full support, and wears a Lycra suit to support her spine.

Isla endures long days at hospital for Botox injections in her legs which will help reduce spasticity in her muscles. However, this is only temporary and lasts around 8-12 weeks a time.

We are in the process of assessment for SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) surgery at Alderhey hospital. SDR is effective in treating spasticity by cutting the nerve rootlets in the spinal canal that are sending abnormal signals to the muscles. Spasticity is the result of an abnormal communication between the brain and the nerves. Reducing this should also help with pain management and give Isla the best quality of life she deserves!

This operation comes with at least 18 months of intense physiotherapy and rehab to help Isla recover and give her the best chance of walking and being comfortable on her feet.

Unfortunately, Isla is a grade ‘4’ on the Gross Motor Function scale so isn’t eligible for NHS funding for the surgery, so we need to raise over £16,000 to ensure Isla scan have the operation!

We are asking for your support of Just4Children to help Isla get her wish and get on her feet.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story.
