Boys walk the Hadrian's Wall - RUTH STRAUSS FOUNDATION & DUSTY YAK · 27 September 2019
A huge thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page raising money for Ruth Strauss Foundation and The Dusty Yak Foundation.
George Morgan, Tommy Anderson, Harry Bain, Otis Farrer-Brown, Callum Togher and Orson Herring (age 10) and Louis Morgan, Jed Hurley & Torin Togher (age 11), all at Caldicott Prep School are doing a sponsored trek with their families along Hadrian's Wall to raise money for both these charities very close to all our hearts.
On the 28th and 29th September 2019 they will be walking for approx. 20 miles from Gilshead to Chester's Fort, staying overnight at The Sill Youth Hostel/Twice Brewed.
Our 2 charities include:
"The Dusty Yak Foundation” http://www.dustyyak.com which supports orphans and vulnerable children in Nepal, providing them with everything from housing, food, clothing and education.
In 2015, following the devastating earthquake in Nepal, The Dusty Yak Foundation was conceived and their first project, Project Budhanilkantha, was established to support their orphaned and relinquished children. They rescued 11 girls and provided them with a safe and happy home environment and the chance of an education. We raised money for them 2 years ago and was delighted to see how all the money went directly to these girls - they now have a life full of opportunities.
Following the success of Project Budhanilkatha, the Foundation is now looking at funding Project WSCSN (The Women & Children Service Centre Nepal). Initially set up, and solely funded, by a Nepalese woman in 2009, WSCSN provides housing and protection to children orphaned as a result of death, abandonment and domestic violence. 10 years on, with funding depleted, 18 children (boys and girls) now live in a field (prone to flooding in rainy season) with tin huts for accommodation (children sleep three in a bed). There is limited protection from the elements and food and fresh water is scarce. The children are also at risk of exploitation. It is a very desperate situation and we would love to raise money through our trek that goes directly to helping these Childrens' lives.
The Ruth Strauss Foundation -(Caldicott's charity this year)
https://ruthstraussfoundation.com - raises money for the lung cancers you don’t hear about and supports the suffering you don’t see. - Last summer, Andrew Strauss, former England captain and Caldiocotian, did not pick up a bat. His wife, Ruth, had been diagnosed with the inoperable form of lung cancer that attacks non-smokers, and given just a year to live.
Ruth sadly died on December 29th last year; she was 46 years old and mother to two children who went to Caldicott and are friends of our boys.In Ruth’s memory Andrew has launched this foundation to provide emotional, psychological and wellbeing support to patients and their families going through a similar experiences and fund research into rare lung cancers - we would very much like to help in anyway we can.
NB - When donating it will say you are donating to the Dusty Yak, but they will be giving half of any donations directly to Ruth Strauss Foundation. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
