Story

I typically will do a fundraiser every couple of years for another emergency service based charity, this year I decided it was time to challenge myself for the closest charity to my heart.

Aside from the obvious of what we do, for the past 17 years, the RNLI has been something more to me. A sense of purpose, reason to get going and better myself. Some would go as far as to described being a fulltime crew member as almost being most of my personality and I’d struggle to argue.

So this year the RNLI is motivating me in a totally new way. I will be working up to June to walk 18 miles from Banchory to Aberdeen. Although not as challenging terrain as some of my recent walks, this will be the longest distance I’ve traveled in a day on my own two feet. Endurance will be the challenge and the motivation of the pennys coming in for a cause so dear to my heart will keep me plodding!

RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.
