Story

Thanks for taking the time to read my reason for setting up a justgiving page,

As far back as my memories go back the ones that stand out the most are of my Grandparents, my grandmother "Nana Jean" is what i have  called her since i was able to talk has been a HUGE part of my life from the day i was born right up in till i went to high school. just after i was born my mother pretty much went straight back to work and my gran looked after me every single day which in time was the making and foundations of an amazing bond and unconditional love between grandmother and grandson. on the odd occasion she would say over as i wanted to have a sleep over with my best friend and she used to jump into bed and tell me stories of her growing up as a wee girl, she always used to tell me this story about  "Pat, Mick and Dunn stole breed" 3 mischievous young boys who used to steal bread and anything they could get their hands on when food was scarce, Until this day i am not too sure if  this was fact or fiction but id like to thing it was true.

My gran had two husbands back in the day,  one of which was a gamekeeper so she was a very strong and fit woman from hauling the stags off the hill onto the Landrover after being out on a stalk. I have never heard of my gran having to go to hospital when i was younger at all so as far as i have known her she has been fighting fit.

It wasn't until i was in my late teens my gran had a stroke..thats when things started to go down hill very rapidly, putting the dishes in the washing machine and showing up a my parents home at 4am in morning with her nighty on scared and confused. It got to he point where my nana had to be moved from her home into a 24hr secure home for elderly suffering from Alzheimer's and its horrific to see the person she has become. She has good and bad days but 90% of he time she needs to be spoon fed her meals she needs to be washed she needs assistance to go to toilet and get dressed it honestly breaks my heart every time i look at her and see what this debilitating disease has done her. But what i do have is over 28 years of amazing memories that can't be deleted and cant be taken away from me.

I know she is suffering and i cant help but burst into tears every time i see her, all i want to do is help her like she helped me as a kid and make things better, kiss her on the forehead and tell her shes coming home and its all going to be ok but i cant.

What i do aim to do is raise money and awareness of his disease that breaks family's hearts every day all over the world.

Myself and a fellow colleague are going to complete the West Highland Way in 72 hours that is a total of 96 miles and 32 miles per day and the 32 miles completed within 12hrs each day...and to top it off once we reach the end off the 96 miles were going to climb Ben Nevis which is the UK's highest peak at 4,411ft above sea level.

If you have read to the end i just want to thank you all very much for taking 5 min out your day to read about my wee Nana Jean and her struggle with Alzheimer's.

Thank you for your time and generous donations.
