I am embarking on an adventure southwards with a vital goal at hand, to spread the awareness and raise money for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust UK and Cystic Fibrosis Queensland. A cause which myself and many people in my life hold closely to our hearts! This mighty slog of a journey begins in Brisbane, making my way south, hugging the beautiful East coast through to Melbourne, undertaking 1400 miles or 2250 kilometers for the metric mind. A comparison of the distance would be London to the South of Spain. Luckily my research tells me it is downhill the entire way! Each day will be spent on my 2 wheeled trusted steed accompanied by endless energy fuelled oaty snacks and never ending Aussie tracks! I am so grateful to introduce the greatest support crew possible, my partner Mad’s and my other partner Norah our van. Between the three of us I’m sure we can overcome any problem that faces us. Camping in the van at night wishing for shepherds delight! CF is currently an incurable disease affecting the lungs and digestive system massively impacting the lives of people living with the condition. Their life expectancy is halved to the average person and a lot of their diagnosed life is spent in hospital and on intense medication, waking up and tackling every day tasks and often struggling, tasks that we take for granted, being restricted like not being able to travel or do the things they love and almost all men diagnosed are unable to have children. The reason I am fundraising for this cause is because a really close family to me has been living this reality. Each individual person from this family has done so much for me, it is time for me to give back to them, raising money for this cause enabling further research in to the fight against this disease and being part of the support system for people living this daily battle! This is one example of CF effecting people’s livelihoods, it impacts many families globally! Having recently moved down under from the UK my aim is to fundraise for 2 charities, The CF Trust UK and CF QLD.
