As some of you may be aware, my Grandma, 'Grandma Joan', lost her battle with cancer on Monday 16th March 2015 at the age of 75. My Grandma was a remarkable women, who was loved so dearly by myself and so many others. She could 'talk for England' Grandma Joan could, and I, along with many others, do sorely miss her.
At Grandma Joan's funeral money was raised and donated to cancer research, and I wish to continue that fundraising effort and raise as much money as possible. Therefore, in memory of my Grandma Joan, I will be taking part in the 'Wiggle Steelman Aqauthlon' in Dorney Park, Berkshire on Saturday 4th July 2015. This Aquathlon consists of a 1,000 metre open water swim followed by a 10 kilometre run.
I was initially supposed to be undertaking the 'Hercules Festival of Sport Aquathlon' in Bedfont, Middlesex on Sunday 12th July 2015. However, this event was cancelled less than two weeks prior to the event, so I am now taking part in the 'Wiggle Steelman Aquathlon' instead.
I have supported the work of Cancer Research UK for a long time now and have previously raised money for the charity. In September 2012 I was due to undertake the Great North Run, in order to raise money Cancer Research UK. However, due to obtaining a foot injury a week prior to the event, I was unable to run the race. I still managed to raise £245 for the charity, but I did not reach my target of £450. Having since experienced the terrible damage which cancer can cause to those we love, and others around them, I feel strongly motivated to rectify this shortcoming and raise as much money as possible in memory of my wonderful Grandma Joan. As a minimum, I aim to raise £450 (my target in 2012) plus the money I failed to raise in 2012 (£205). Therefore, my overall minimum target is £655. However, I hope that we can raise above and beyond that.
Unfortunately, the sad truth is that we all have either lost someone due to cancer or know someone who has been effected by it. Therefore, I ask that you give as generously as you can to help fund the fight against cancer.
Donations of any form will be massively appreciated and I, therefore, wish to thank all of you who do donate in advance.
Finally, if you do decide to donate and knew my Grandma Joan personally, please feel free to share your memories of a truly remarkable women.
Again, thank you.
Callum
