Callum’s Eurojam 2020 Challenges · 11 August 2019

Scouting offers fun, challenge and everyday adventure to more than 500,000 girls and boys across the UK. We help 6-25 year olds grow in confidence, achieve their full potential and become active members of their communities. We are currently fundraising for Gang Show and World Scout Jamboree

Story

I have been in scouting since I was 6 years old and have experienced some amazing activities and camps within the UK during this time. I have been selected to go to the Eurojam 2020 Jamboree in the Polish city of Gdansk next summer with 35 scouts and 4 leaders from the Chester district. This will be the first European wide jamboree in 15 years and up to 25,000 scouts and guides are expected to attend. It will be my first jamboree and I am thrilled to be given this opportunity.

However, in true scouting fashion, each participant is expected to help fundraise half the cost either through group or individual activities. This is partly to fund scouts and guides from less privileged countries to attend.

Already, I have had wet sponges thrown at me, ran a car boot sale, handed out water at Chester Half Marathon and rattled collection buckets for Chester Lions at Chester Boat Race but now my serious challenge begins and the point where I would like to ask for your help. Please can you sponsor me to complete the following challenges between August and September 2019:

5th August - climb to the summit of Snowdon, Wales (1085 metes) along the Watkins Path and Miners Track routes.

8th August - canoe the full length of Pontcysyllte Viaduct (height 38 meters) near Llangollen, Wales.

9th August - cycle the whole 3 loops of the Minotaur mountain bike route at Coed-y-Brenin, North Wales (17km).

20th August - complete the Sky to Sea bike tour in Edinburgh, Scotland on a mountain bike. Spend 3-3.5 hours traveling along the highest (the volcanic Arthur’s Seat) and lowest (Portobello and the Port of Leith) areas accessible by tarmac.

23rd-26th August - complete my Silver Duke of Edinburgh assessment expedition in Snowdonia, North Wales.

28th-29th September - ‘Sponsored Walk to Gdansk’. Scouts and leaders to walk the complete circuit of Chester City Walls 15x in 24 hours. A total of 48km each scout!
