Story

What's The Mission?

During 2021 I will be running AT LEAST 2021km to help raise awareness and money for CALM.

That's 5.75km (3.57 miles or 5745 meters) a day. Which by the end of the year will mean my poor legs would have ran 49 marathons!

What's The Reason?

Now more than ever due to the global pandemic a lot of people both male and female are suffering from depleting mental health, I personally have also felt this and I am sure if you haven't you know someone who has.

Chance's are you know more women than men who have/are suffering, this likely isn't because there's more women suffering but more likely because a lot of men haven't opened up about it.

There's an underlying social stigma against men being emotionally open with their friends and family, that they shouldn't be vulnerable. When in fact everyone should be allowed to be vulnerable and everyone should have someone there to listen to them no matter the situation.

If we lived in a world where men could be vulnerable without feeling like they're 'less of a man' for doing so then the ever increasing suicide rate of men (currently responsible for 3/4 of the national annual suicide rate) would decrease drastically and that of women too.

You've heard of the saying:

'In a world where you can be anything be kind'

I challenge you instead to live by

'In a world where you can be anything, be there'

Because that's all anyone needs, we can't make every single person in this world kind. But if everyone has someone to be there then when they're feeling down or a person hasn't been kind, they'll be okay Because they know there's someone there for them no matter what.

Who Is CALM?

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide, the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK.

Our goal is a life less miserable for you, your friends, your family and for all men. CALM PROVIDES A free and anonymous helpline 0800 58 58 58 and webchat (5pm-12am daily) staffed by trained professionals.

Their website has a host of inspiring content (www.theCALMzone.net). They campaign for tackling stereotypes of masculinity, suicide and mental health.

They need us to help them save lives.
