Story

Little Hearts Matter is a national charity offering support and information to anyone affected by the devastating diagnosis of a single ventricle heart condition, children born with half a working heart.

We hope you like this fragrance Cerys had the opportunity to create with the team at Calm.

Calm Candles London will be making a donation of £3.00 for every “Bless your Heart“ candle sold.

Cerys's Story - Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome

Sarah her mum explains:

We attended our 20 week scan, I assumed, as I suppose we all do that it will be routine and in half an hour I’d be on my way to the office for the afternoon.

The first 15 mins or so followed a familiar pattern, “there’s an arm, there’s the head, there’s a foot” etc. The sonographer suddenly went quiet and asked us to be quiet while she concentrated. This made us feel somewhat uneasy and a sense that something wasn’t quite as it should be. After what felt like an age she told us she needed a second opinion. She left the room and returned with a doctor, following several minutes of muttering he declared that there appeared to be “a serious problem with your baby’s heart!”

The Internet was obviously our first port of call, a great source of information and just as much misinformation. One of the first sites we came across was Little Hearts Matter and we called them that afternoon. They are clearly used to receiving calls from dazed and confused parents. It was comforting to know that we were not alone and there was help and support out there. In hindsight it is strange that we were not told about LHM as an immediate source of support and information by the hospital before or after the confirmation of our daughter’s condition.

LHM sent us a brochure in the post, which really helped us understand children with the condition and case studies from the families.

LHM have continued over the years to be a huge support to our family. Cerys is a bright & funny - an insirpation to all that meet her.
