CALM x UCOWM: 7’s Charity Cup 2018 · 23 June 2018

We’re Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), and we’re a suicide prevention charity. We host a helpline for people affected by suicide, as well as vital online resources for anyone who needs them.

Story

In 2016, 76% of all suicides in the UK were male.

84 men take their own lives every week in the UK.

Suicide is the single biggest killer of men aged under 45.

Despite all the diseases we could contract, accidents we could be in or potential ways we could kill each other, men are killing themselves more frequently than any of those things.

These astonishing statistics have led the United Colours of Wicked Man (UCoWM), a group of like-minded - and likely- lads, to host their second annual football fundraiser after a highly successful debut event last year, in support of the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).

Founded in 2006, CALM is an award-winning charity dedicated to preventing male suicide. Recently backed by royalty in Prince William, and a British institution in long running ITV soap Coronation Street, where it was heavily involved in the recent male suicide story line - the fateful, May 7th episode drew close to 7m viewers - CALM are at the forefront of tackling this devastating, silent epidemic.

Last year the charity answered more than 71,000 calls and webchats, and directly prevented 427 suicides through the free, confidential and anonymous help they provide. Considering only 55% of men who’ve experienced depression will tell anyone about it, the value of what CALM are doing cannot be underestimated.

Saturday 23rd June 2018 at Sutton United Football club, the Wicked Men are going to go big.

2017 saw two teams smash the £2,500 target and raise over £3,000; this year the UCoWM have called in some close friends who share their passion in raising awareness on this poignant issue, to host another day of football fun! Now featuring eight teams in a 7-a-side tournament format,  the UCoWM x CALM 7's Charity Cup event is completely free to attend and won't just be about football: there'll be a fully licensed bar, food, stadium seating, djs and music, live world cup screenings, a prize raffle, plus games, face painting and free ice cream for the kids - all your support is welcome! Oh, and an after party until the small hours for the adults...

Any donation you can make to help us reach our £4,000 target will be much appreciated and will be supporting the efforts to help tackle one of modern day society's greatest taboos, male suicide.
