Below is a little bit more about our Cal State Fullerton group, as well as an explanation of the projects we have decided to support in South Africa. Thank you for taking the time to visit our site!
Our Story
Our group consists of 19 dedicated students who traveled to Port Elizabeth, South Africa this past summer on a study abroad program. It was here that our eyes were opened to a whole new world, a world that leaves hundreds of children begging on street corners and deprived of a safe place to call home. For two weeks we had the amazing opportunity of volunteering at Maranatha Children’s Home, a home that provides “street children” with the basic necessities of life. Some are going to school for the first time and each child has the opportunity to participate in various extracurricular activities.
Maranatha Children’s Home relies heavily on the funds provided by “Maranatha Care Children”, a non-profit organization that is ran by a young passionate social-worker from the United Kingdom, Harrison Nash. After a visit out to South Africa, he too saw the devastating conditions these children face on a daily basis and decided to do something about it. In 2007 he establish “Maranatha Care Children” as an official non-profit organization in the U.K. 100% of the funds raised go directly toward meeting the needs of the children in South Africa. (To find out more about Maranatha Care Children & Harrison's story please visit- http://www.maranathacarechildren.com/)
We had the pleasure of meeting and working with Harrison while we were in South Africa, and we too fell in love with the kids at Maranatha. We, as students of Cal State Fullerton, have begun a partnership with his organization and are reaching out to you to help us save more children from the streets of South Africa. Already, we have been able to find enough sponsors to be able to provide each child with gifts at Christmas time, but our mission does not stop here.
Our effort to continue supporting Maranatha is an ongoing project and this is where you come in. By donating to this site, you can help fulfill the dreams and wishes of every child at Maranatha Children’s Home. There are many projects currently in the works and we promise you that 100% of your donation will go directly to the children. No overhead costs included.
Our two main goals are to raise $500 (U.S. Dollars) to buy every Maranatha child a new pair of "church" shoes and to raise $1,000 (U.S. Dollars) to cover the costs of 20 children joining Humewood Sea Scouts. There will be a future opportunity to become a monthly sponsor for a child, so be looking out for this event! If you would like more information regarding this opportunity please contact Kristi Boogaard at k.boogaard@yahoo.com
THANK YOU again for visiting our site! ANY donation is greatly appreciated! We are excited to see the impact that your donations will be making on the lives of the children at Maranatha.
Sincerely,
Cal State Fullerton South Africa Study Abroad Students 2010
