This will be our second mighty hike for Macmillan having raised £1340 last year. It was a fantastic day despite the length (ended up actually over 28 miles) and our injuries (Claire's toenails have only just grown back!). We hope to smash last years total and beat our time (9 hours 47 mins - we were in the top 50 finishers).

After the event last year, Claire had a cyst removed from her eyelid which turned out to be a basal cell carcinoma. We will consider ourselves lucky if this is the only cancer we experience between the two of us (it's slow growing and rarely spreads) but sadly many others aren't as fortunate. Based on ISD statistics, in 2015, 31,467 people in Scotland were diagnosed with cancer; it is estimated 2 in 5 people in Scotland will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime. Frightening statistics so that's why it's so important to support charities like Macmillan who provide care and support for cancer sufferers and their loved ones.
