Story
UPDATE::
The event is over but the story will go on for years to come!
The race was sabotaged by a local protestor who spread carpet tacks on a 15 mile section of the course. Hundreds of people had punctures, some fell off their bikes as a result and the race was stopped for 1hr 45 mins (in our case) whilst the organisers tried to clear the Schiehallion mountain section of these tacks.
It has been reported widely on the national news and the latest is that the police have arrested a suspect. Due in court imminently.

The ride was great, fantastic countryside and it would appear that the hills around Kennethmont, Huntly and Alford have proved to be a good training ground. I had no great problems with fitness and even managed to get through with no punctures!
Thanks to all who have donated to Spinal Injuries Scotland as a result of this event. If you haven't given yet, it isn't too late - I'll be just as grateful of a donation now as I was before the race.
END OF UPDATE
As you may know, my neighbour (Dave Henderson) suffered a serious spinal injury last year. Spinal Injuries Scotland provided a lot of support and assistance to Dave and his family adapting to the radical changes which happened when Dave became paralysed. He is an inspiration to us all and it's a great thing that charities like SIS exist to provide that essential support. Check the BBC news link for Dave's story:

Along with a colleage from Marine Technical Limits, we decided to enter the Etape Caledonia (81 miles) cycle race in Perthshire before we both hit 40. Training is going reasonably well - I'm stocking up on carbohydrates and appear to be storing them up front to get me through the 5+ hours of cycling. The time is drawing nearer - the race is on Sunday and I need some more money going to charity to give me a boost. Please give now.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Spinal Injuries Scotland gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
