Story
Starting from 1st December, I will be embarking on a year-long challenge to run 5k every day for a year.
I am taking on the challenge in aid of Weston Hospice Care, a place which holds a lot of personal meaning. Weston Hospice Care gives outstanding care to people with any life-limiting illnesses and support to their families. They provide expert care from their base, whilst also offering in-house services, where specialist community nurses advice is provided. The hospice sees 'every person as the special person they are’ and I’ve seen first-hand how much difference they can make.
My personal motivation to take part in this challenge is in memory of Nikola James. Nicki is the Mum of my best mate and has been a massive part of my life since the age of 4. Sadly, she passed away in August this year after a brave 3-year battle with a brain tumour (something I also hope to raise awareness of). She was a quite remarkable woman and despite what she was going through, was still her bubbly self, still putting others ahead of herself, she really has been a second mum to me and brought up someone who I’m lucky to call my best mate and just the best person you could know in Con.
The Hospice played a massive part in Nicki’s last few weeks and months. Jenny is a specialist community nurse from the Hospice who regularly came to speak to Nicki, she really helped by giving advice, answering questions and helping Nicki explain what she wanted moving forwards. Nicki spent her last few weeks in the Hospice and passed away peacefully.
The challenge will test me both physically and mentally, but I’m sure it will be an incredible challenge and will be completed in aid of a very important cause close to my heart.
Any donation will help and anything I raise would be massively appreciated by me, everyone who knew Nicki and Weston Hospice Care.
I have made an Instagram page called ‘5K365WHC’ to promote related charities and awareness of both the hospice and brain tumours. I will also provide regular updates as to how the running is going.
Thank you in advance to anyone to donates, every little helps. May need some of you to keep me going for a whole year!
