Cambrian Way 2021 - Length of Wales to Fight Breast Cancer · 15 August 2021
Cancer is one of those things that we all fear, but we tell ourselves that it will never happen to us. For the majority of my own life, I hadn't really given it much thought, and I have certainly taken life for granted during my 23 years.
Early this year, my cousin Sarah was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and has had to undergo a new way of life - chemotherapy and other treatments to Fight the disease, as well as juggling an already busy family life. She is only 35. It is a perilous journey of uncertainty, with many obstacles and mountains to climb towards a better future for Sarah, and other people who suffer with Breast Cancer.
Backpacking is my main ambition in life, and the trail often brings unknown dangers and trials along the way. Often, you rely hugely on your companions for help. I see it as a metaphor for the difficulties Cancer brings - but as one takes on this huge task, they need all the support they can get.
That is why we are raising money for Breast Cancer Now by walking the Cambrian Way. Breast Cancer Now help provide life-changing support to people diagnosed with Breast Cancer, as well as working hard to discover and research the disease in an effort to Defeat Cancer once and for all.
The Cambrian Way is a 300 mile long distance trail that crosses the length of Wales from Cardiff castle to Conwy castle. It follows the ridgelines of the biggest mountains in Wales over four different mountain ranges:
We will be walking the trek for 17 days from Sunday 15th August until Tuesday 31st August. As well as the compact time constraint, difficult terrain and heavy mileage, we shall also be summiting peaks such as Snowdon, Glyder Fawr, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan - as well as 30+ more!
