Story
My Auntie Claire was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, which was a shock to all of us. Her typical way of coping was, 'just get on with it'. She did say that the best advice given to her was a recommendation to contact Future Dreams, a charity based in Kings Cross dedicated to supporting people diagnosed with breast cancer, past and present. It was invaluable in helping her meet and speak with other women facing similar decisions and journeys to her.
Claire said: The impact of hearing the diagnosis was difficult to adjust to. Trying to make decisions about surgery was so confusing. Going to Future Dreams was like coming home. It is a warm and welcoming environment that supports women through every stage of the journey and beyond. I have met amazing people and shared experiences. The relief of talking to others in a similar position is huge. Other services I have accessed there include reflexology, specialist bra fitting, ballet and I joined the choir! I love singing and no one seems to mind that I can't sing in tune...It is an invaluable service that constantly seeks funding. Times are hard, so if you are not able to donate please do spread the word about the amazing work they do.
Nobody should face breast cancer alone. Future Dreams provides practical, emotional and psychological support for those diagnosed with breast cancer, funds vital secondary breast cancer research and promotes breast health awareness. Over 50,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK every year, the equivalent of one person every 10 minutes. To date, Future Dreams has raised over £5m pledging funds towards the charities three aims - support, awareness and research.
I am completing this triathlon to say thank you to Future Dreams for supporting Auntie Claire and helping us all though a difficult time. Please do support if you are able.
