Story

Back at the very start of winter four optimistic colleagues and friends from Mapledown School decided it’d be a brilliant idea to ride 500 miles on a bike through northern Spain following the thousand year old pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.

With the recruitment of a fifth pedaller the Camino Crazies were born, flights were booked and the whole thing became real. Of course in their optimism the Crazies didn’t really consider that 500 miles is a long way to ride a bike particularly off road and away from the forgiving tarmac they normally enjoy. Nor did they particularly consider that with the ride being at the start of spring they’d be out training in the cold and wet leading up to their departure. But hey ho, the thermals were put on and the training miles have continued to clock up over the past months.

With little over a month to go until the departure date we have got our blog site up and running ( http://caminocrazies.blogspot.co.uk/ if you'dlike to follow our progress) and are starting to ask all the good folk we know to sponsor us in our cycle through Spain. We will be raising money for the Friends of Mapledown charity which provides funding to support all the wonderful work that takes place at the school and helps purchase new technology and equipment to broaden our students educational horizons.

Alternatively we will be also supporting Chiltern Music Therapy, a non profit organisation that provides outreach music therapy services in areas where there is a need. Chiltern music therapy reaches out to children and adults with a wide range of difficulties, including autism learning difficulties, mental health difficulties, brain injuries and dementia.

To donate to Chiltern Music Therapy please do so here:

Any sponsorship you could offer us would be greatly appreciated and make each pedal of the ride that much easier on the spirit!

Many thanks,

Alexandra, Caroline, Christos, Kelly and Will aka the Camino Crazies
