The Who and Why ….

Hi, we are Wendy and Colin Roscoe, two middle-aged professionals who, having worked in multi-national companies for a couple of decades and now are running our own company, we decided it was time to give something back.

We spent some time racking our brains for both a worthy challenge and cause … the latter was easy … Teenage Cancer Trust – a charity whose sole purpose is to support the 2500 young people who unfortunately hear the words ‘you have cancer’ every year. The challenge, proved to be a little harder but after many discussions we have settled on walking ‘El Camino Frances’.

The Challenge ….

El Camino Frances is a 790km pilgrim route from St Jean Pied de Port in France, over the Pyrenees, to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. With a total elevation gain of +18,500m and elevation loss of +17,500m, we expect it will test both our physical and mental resilience. We plan to start walking in early May and walk approximately 24km each day, with maybe one or two days off across the 5 weeks. And just to add a little pressure, we have already booked our flight home on 10^th June 2022. We will be carrying all of our equipment for the duration and plan to stay in the albergues (pilgrim hostels) along the way and hope to meet with the many other peregrinos and hear their stories 😊

The Outcome ….

We hope to raise as much money as possible for Teenage Cancer Trust, so they can keep doing the brilliant work of supporting young people through both the physical and mental battle of dealing with cancer every single day. We might have a tough challenge ahead of us, but we are both very aware how lucky we are that none of our four children have had to face this life changing diagnosis and want to support the organisation that some of our friends have needed.

Any and all donations would be greatly received to help us to reach our target of £2000 (just £4 a mile or 0.1 pence a step each!!)
