Walking 103km of the Camino del Norte, Spain · 14 October 2021

We're Norfolk and Waveney Mind, your local mental health charity. We work to reduce the stigma associated with mental health, support people in their recovery and champion better services for all.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am going to be trekking alone across arguably the toughest part the Camino de Santiago (Way of St James), Europe's most famous pilgrimage route. Initially, via the Camino del Norte's first seven sections of 1-7 (Irun to Bilbao). The route includes rugged coastal terrain and the Basque mountain range.

This first section of the route is 103 km / 64 miles and I plan to do it in one week this October (covid permitting). If I can manage it, I will continue to walk the full 825km of the route to Santiago de Compostela over 1-2 months.

I really want to use this challenge as an opportunity to discover more about Spain, this historical pilgrimage route, and self reflect.

With this being such a big challenge for me, it makes sense to try to raise funds for an important cause. Mind is a mental health charity and like many people, I have had a very hard past 18 months, with many mental health obstacles to overcome, and continue to work through. Mental health problems are so common now, and so it is important that we support those that are struggling, to know that it is okay to be unwell, to ask for help, and take a break.

I have connected my strava to this page to give updates, and will also be posting up about my experiences and the cities I visit on my travel blog - https://gogochlo.com/ as well as my YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmb6Q6CfnpfRxnWQe2CkfSw

I hope you will support me and donate to the charity!

----UPDATE-----

I have now completed the trek to Bilbao, which was extremely hard work, but also beautiful and rewarding!

I want to continue to walk and fundraise. To make it extra interesting though, I want to open myself up to challenges and tasks along the way. For example, one person has already dared me to walk 1km of the route naked... I am still considering the logistics of this!

If you would like to challenge me (within reason please, I don't want to be injured or jailed)  then leave a comment and your donation below! The bigger the challenge, the bigger the donation please! I am excited to see what you come up with! 😄
