Mizuno Liverpool Half Marathon 2009 · 29 March 2009 ·

We are the only UK lung cancer charity dedicated to helping everyone affected by the disease. We fund essential research and provide much needed support, information and advice. We raise awareness and challenge the misconceptions of lung cancer. We do all this so those affected can expect better.

Story

Hello and welcome to the Camps Solicitors page on Justgiving.

This year we will be engaging in a variety of fundraising activities with our chosen charity, the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.  The first event sees two of our staff, Neil Worrall and Ged Jones, running the Mizuno Liverpool Half Marathon on March 29th.  The 13 mile course covers the city centre and suburbs of Liverpool, and should be a challenge for both Ged and Neil.

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only charity in the UK wholly dedicated to defeating lung cancer, the biggest cancer killer in the world. Camps are proud to be helping them with their mission to defeat lung cancer.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please donate and help Camps to help the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Well, I managed to get round the course, thanks to encouragement from the Roy Castle supporters.  Weather was superb, really nice morning to be running, sunny, not too hot.  I don't have my official time yet, but should be around 1:55, judging by the girl next to me who had been timing her run.  Well chuffed that I made it, and managed to raise a cracking sum for Roy Castle too.

No news yet from Ged, last seen speeding past me somewhere in deepest Sefton Park.

Right, only a few hours to go till the run now, going to have an early night, quite knackered from the concert I've just been playing in.  New shoes are broken in now and blister plasters have been applied, the only thing left is to say thanks to everyone who has supported both myself and Ged in the run up (no pun intended) to tomorrow.  The response has been amazing, and an excellent start to our years' fundraising for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.  Hopefully I will be able to update you all after the race tomorrow.

Added another £45 from the members of Wirral Co-Operative Orchestra, thank you to them.

Wow!  Thanks to some very generous donations on the website we have passed the £1000 mark, great news for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation!

The donations are really coming in thick and fast now, which is great to see, less than £200 till we reach our target, but hopefully we can break the £1000 barrier before race day.  Running still going well, did 4 miles in 33 minutes last night, this time without any breaks, although my knees are definately feeling it today.

*** Update March 25th *** (from Neil)

More running last night, 4 miles in 36 minutes, managed to keep an even pace throughout which was good.  Definately feeling it in my knees this morning, spoke to Ged who is training hard as well.  Over half way on the donations, so thanks to everyone who has contributed so far.

*** Update March 24th Part 2 ***

Added fundraising total from the office sponsorship form.  Great effort by the Camps staff, raising £326 and counting.

***Update March 24th*** (from Neil)

Training going well, I managed 6.5 miles on Saturday and Sunday nights.  Walked round the course on Sunday afternoon, on the lookout for hills and potholes, only spotted 2 steep sections, which was a relief.  Checkout a course map to see the route for yourself.
