Salvation Army COVID-19 Community Programme · 8 April 2020

The Salvation Army is a Christian Church & registered Charity working in 130 countries worldwide and is one of the largest and most diverse providers of social welfare in the world. In the UK and Republic of Ireland this work includes more than 800 Salvation Army social service centres and Community churches. We provide unconditional friendship, support and very practical help to people in crisis and need and work with children, homeless people, all adult victims of modern slavery and those dealing with drug and/or alcohol addiction. Alongside our work in the UK, The Salvation Army International Projects Office works with communities around the world to support and empower them to defeat poverty and injustice. Our development projects are created and implemented in partnership with communities to enable them to build a better life and future for themselves. The Salvation Army is a Christian Church & registered Charity in England (214779), Wales (214779), Scotland (SC009359) and the Republic of Ireland (CHY6399)

Story

As both a church and charity rooted in local communities, The Salvation Army offers God's unconditional love to all.  In it's 125th Celebration Brochure of 2010 the then Mayor of Cambridge wrote, "over the past 125 years The Salvation Army has provided spiritual sustenance..., compassion for those in need of it's social welfare and a strong sense of community."

Our  focus for spiritual sustenance is currently online until restrictions are eased due to COVID-19.  You can find out more about this on our YouTube Channel:

Our focus for compassion for those in need is active and ongoing, we are still involved in providing help and care for the homeless in Cambridge and vulnerable families who are in need of extra support during these difficult days of pandemic.

We can be contacted by telephoning 01223 367633 or emailing officers@camsa.org.uk

As for building a strong sense of community, we have just commenced a refurbishment project, the aim of which is to provide  additional facilities and enable a much more open, warm and welcoming 'front door', which will in turn, create an entry to a Community Hub providing a welcoming environment for everyone to share coffee and conversation. There will be a enlarged, improved, better equipped kitchen that caters so much better for our growing communities.  There will be a discreet yet accessible extra toilet and shower room available to any in need, first floor areas designed and equipped for children and youth activities and great storage space for our Christmas parcels.  There will also be space open to use by other community groups. We hope to see the new facilities in operation for the start of 2022.

We really appreciate your financial support at this time.
