Our aim is to alleviate poverty amongst children in South Africa through the provision of food and education. Our main focus is on feeding through pre-schools and primary schools using a fortified porridge which provides the nutrients which are essential for physical and mental development.

Story

When i read that the GRTC was supporting the distribution of "e-pap" (a nutritious porridge) to children without food in South Africa, I had to do something to help.

My late father in law, Jeremy Davis (one of my all time heros) was  involved with "epap" in 2000 when he worked as a local councillor. He devoted himself to humanity and took me into many hair raising situations to see what he was doing. He helped many families with absolutely no access to food, he shutdown child trafficking rings, he set up baby boxes for babies that would otherwise end up in the trash. He got involved with the dangerous, dark and ugly side of humanity because he cared deeply for people.

I remember him as a 75 year old man driving into a township in his BMW to hand out second hand clothing to young children. I went along to help and was terrified by the poverty, the men out of their heads on drugs and the smell of raw sewerage. We ran out of clothing and an enormous queue of children remained. My dear father in law didnt bat an eye - he promised the children he would be back soon and he shouted at two men that were spitting at us. I was praying very hard to get out of the township alive.

Swimming a marathon (26miles) in January, in the sea, in England is mad and brave and something he would totally approve of.

Im lucky enough to have a group of equally mad.brave friends that are joining me.
