In 2012, after suffering years of mystery headaches and crippling pain, I was diagnosed with Chiari Type 1 Malformation. In a double blow of devastating news, I was told I had also developed Syringomyelia - a complication of Chiari causing a life threatening blockage of my cerebrospinal fluid. The only solution was to undergo brain surgery. Luckily I had a fantastic neurosurgeon, and after decompression surgery in December 2012, I have gone on to make a full recovery. 

So almost 10 years since my surgery I have decided to take part in London Marathon 2023 to raise funds for Brain Research UK.

1 in 6 of us has a neurological condition. I am not the only one who has experienced suffering from a condition. I know people who struggle daily with migraines, those who have suffered brain and spine injuries and are still trying to recover, all the way through to those we have lost to brain tumours. Brain Research UK fund work to reduce the impact of neurological conditions and save lives in the process.
