Goodwill Children's Homes support the care and education of destitute children, and we help them become independent, self-supporting members of society. We fund children’s homes, a school, and a Tribal Outreach Programme (TORP) that encourage tribal communities to send their children to school.

Story

For more than 40 years the Goodwill Children’s Homes have provided orphaned and destitute children from disadvantaged tribal areas in Tamil Nadu, India with a loving home and access to quality education. Through our Indian partners, Goodwill ensures long-term care and education to children from very poor backgrounds who are often orphaned at a young age; many have no one to look after them and the support provided by Goodwill allows them the opportunity for a brighter future.

Canford have been taking Lwr 6th pupils to visit the orphanage for the last 20+ years.  The pupils will be hosted at the orphanage and help with some teaching of Maths and English in the primary school connected to the orphanage.  This is not simply a tourist holiday - the pupils not only contribute to the orphans on-going education, but they also look at the wider work that Goodwill does with the wider tribal community.  Most importantly both the Goodwill and Canford pupils develop friendships that allow each to understand their differences and similarities as they share time together.
