CAN is a UK based charity whose aim is to help some of the poorest people on the planet – the mountain people of Nepal. It helps local communities to raise their standard of living and strengthen indigenous, community-based cultures.

Story

Community Action Nepal (CAN) - delivering life-changing health, education and livelihood programmes in remote mountain communities in Nepal.

In 2006 I climbed Teng Kongma - a mountaineering peak in Eastern Nepal, with David Nightingale. The trip was organised through Community Action Treks (sister organisation to CAN). My brief time in Nepal had a profound effect on me - the people were so resilient and welcoming. My time in the mountains also helped me to clarify where I wanted to go in my life and when I returned I proposed to Cath and the rest (as they say) is history.

Lots has happened since then but over the years I have done various crazy challenges and sometimes I've reached out to friends and family to raise some pennies to support the work of this outstanding charity. That time has come again...

This time I may well have bitten off more than I can chew - only time will tell. On Sunday 22 May I'll be on the start line for the Cape Wrath Ultra - https://www.capewrathultra.com

400km, 8-day ultra running expedition... Fort Bill to Cape Wrath on the NW tip of the Scottish mainland... passing through Knoydart, Kintail, Torridon, Assynt and Sutherland.

I've never done a multi-day ultra before - so I've no real idea how I'm going to get on. Training has gone well and now it's time to head up to the Highlands and give it a go...

Community Action Nepal is a UK charity that works with some of the most remote communities in the Nepalese Himalaya. They work closely in partnership with local mountain communities - helping them with tools and resources to help them to raise their standards of living, whilst strengthening and protecting their cultures and traditions. It's important work in an amazing country with inspirational peoples.
