Its aims are to save life and alleviate distress, primarily in Upland and Mountain areas although teams are called upon by the Police to search lowland areas for missing people.

Story

To mark the Centenary of Captain Scott’s ill-fated final push to the South Pole, a gang of brave men will be re-enacting the final stage of their polar journey.

11 men will haul 11 sledges for 11 miles in the Peak District in Dec 2011.

Jeff Nicholls, Nick Humphreys, Phil Nisbet, Ben Smith, Jim Howes, Graham Wilson, Jon Ward, Adam Garside, Adrian Hawkins, Wayne Pearce and Simon Bean hope to raise over £1,000 in aid of the

Peak District Mountain Rescue Service

Mountain Rescue saves lives in wild and remote places

In 2010 Peak District Mountain Rescue teams attended 430 incidents.

All members who respond to calls are unpaid volunteers.

Mountain rescue does not charge anyone for attendance at an incident.
