Rhino Charge Kenya 2021 · 30 May 2021 ·
This year Team Bundu Fundi are back to compete in their 25th consecutive Rhino Charge. The delayed 2021 event will now be run on the 17th July 2021.
The Rhino Charge supports the Rhino Ark charitable trust which develops sustainable solutions to the challenges facing mountain forest ecosystems and threatened biodiversity areas in Kenya. Not only does the trust aim to protect wildlife and its environment, but also aims to benefit surrounding communities who suffer from human-wildlife conflict.
Sadly Covid caused the cancellation of the 2020 event and so Rhino Ark missed out on the donations that would normally come in from the Rhino Charge Charge. It has been a tough year for everyone in business and the charity sector alike and Rhino Ark have really had to manage their resources carefully. Most of the full time employees have taken significant pay cuts over the last year as part of this. Thankfully Rhino Ark managed to secure some large scale emergency funding to cover ongoing fence work but the funds from the Rhino Charge are particularly useful as they help to pay salaries for vital staff members. It is critical for the ongoing security of the charity that a decent amount of funds are raised by the 2021 Rhino Charge and we want to do our part in this. All competing teams have been told they must raise at least 75% of their original pledge, which in our case is 1.125M KSH. We'd still like to try to get as close as possible to our original 1.5M KSH (£10,000) pledge if possible though.
It is not an easy time to be raising funds and we appreciate that many of our regular sponsors will have had their own financial difficulties over the last year. What is clear however is that now more than ever the ongoing conservation work of the likes of Rhino Ark is more vital than ever and they need as much support as they can get.
Please help us in supporting the goals of this charity, which are so important to Kenya, its people and its wildlife. Kenya's highland forest water towers are irreplaceable natural assets that we are all very fond of-please dig deep and help us to preserve them! Many thanks - Sean, Patrick, Kieran, Harry, Alan, and James.
