Story
Earlier this year we lost my beautiful Nannan and my daughter’s namesake, Daisy. Unfortunately Daisy had been suffering with dementia and later Alzheimer’s for the last 10 years or so. Her devoted husband, Walter of over 60 years took incredible care of her until his recent passing and her care was then taken over by her amazing daughters Michelle and my mum Janet who selflessly devoted their lives to ensuring she was taken care of like the Queen she was.
For many years she was the matriarch of our family and well known within our little community for her generosity and kindness. It wasn’t unknown for her to be cooking for 10 people a day without giving it a second thought. Even when they had very little they still gave a lot. Her legacy will live on with her family and despite the cruel disease that robbed us of her in her final years, we will never forget what a truly amazing lady she was and I will always be proud to call her my Nannan 💜
During these difficult times, BIADS have provided incredible support and ensured that Daisy enjoyed herself in spite of her illness. They continue to give support to those with Alzheimer’s and their families and we would love to give back to them so they can continue their work for many years to come.
A few years after dementia took hold, Daisy’s imagination could sometimes run a little wild and she often told people of how I ran through Barnsley holding the Olympic torch (I wish!). By some unbelievable stroke of luck, I was given a ballot place for the London Marathon on 23rd April 2023 on my first try and I would love to run it in Daisy’s honour and loving memory
