We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

I'm not running this year due to an ankle accident with a flip flop last year but I can cycle! I've been looking at challenges I thought 'never been to Paris before!'. So London to Paris it is!
Some of you know I am involved in fund raising for Teenage Cancer Trust- this is for Oli and the Oliver Mills Foundation

Oli was a fit, young, full of life 18-year old who had his whole life ahead of him. Nobody could have foreseen him collapsing at home and spending the next 6 months of his life dealing with a brain tumour that was at first mis-diagnosed – meaning he battled on with the spirit that typified his character until he could no more.

That period of time and his last moments with us will never define him as a person or the memories we have of him. No doubt we all hold very personal memories of Oli close to our hearts – some funny, some frustrating, some loving, some outrageous and some that no doubt can’t be shared here! What is clear is that he very much still lives on in all of our lives as strongly today as he did the day he left us.

The Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) has had a huge part to play in this. Oli’s last days were spent on a ward in the Royal Free Hospital in North London where it should be said, he received first class treatment and care - but, he received this on a ward with much older people – some of whom sounded like they were doing well to still be there!

In the days after Oli’s funeral we discussed a charity to support and came across the TCT - an amazing charity who develop specialist treatment centres in NHS hospitals that allow teenagers to be treated for cancer with people their own age, going through the same battle as they are, and in surroundings no different to those a ‘normal’ teenager should enjoy in their home or bedroom.
