Walking 500,000 steps from Cardiff Bay Morrisons to Himore House, Bradford for City Hospice · 22 September 2020
The City Hospice nurses and counsellors provide an essential service to those who need it most. The team support families through the most difficult of times and by maintaining the best quality of life, our nurses ensure patients and their families have the chance to create lasting memories.During the COVID 19 outbreak our commitment remains the same - to ensure our patients receive the care and compassion they deserve. If a person in our community; it may be a loved one, friend or colleague requires community palliative care, City Hospice is the outstanding charity which provides this essential service. We are Cardiff's local hospice. Our charity is partially funded by the NHS, and still needs to raise over £1.5m a year to deliver our service. We ask the community to help us during the difficult days ahead, so that we can continue to provide nursing and essential care to those who are terminally ill.
City Hospice cares for families in Cardiff, a very close to home and close to our hearts local cause. City Hospice do an amazing job looking after and taking care of those with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses or providing end of life care.
Our Virtual Challenge is to walk the 250 miles, 500,000 steps, to our head office, Hilmore House in Bradford during the month of October. We will be tracking our steps on phones and smart watches. We will have around 100 employees sign-up and I am aiming for the whole store to sign-up, then we may be able to reach our goal before the end of the month.
Our colleagues do a lot of steps in their shifts, but we will also organise walks (where we can and safe to do so) to get our steps up. I'm really looking forward to seeing how far we have walked, reaching milestones and how we have achieved it as a team, we do plan to ‘virtually’ stop off at the other Morrison's stores along the route.
We love taking part in challenges like this, and with the current situation its great to be able to still support our local hospice, build team morale, and raise those vital funds for such an amazing cause. I would recommend other supermarkets and teams in other organisations to get involved, it really does bring the whole team together when at the moment we are being told to stay apart.
