Story
My Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's nearly 7 years ago. That's a long time - normally diagnoses doesn't happen for a couple of years but ironically he was being checked for brain damage due to throat cancer when it was spotted. Medication has helped slow his deterioration but it can never stop it. I've heard it said that dementia is the "slow death". And it is. I can see how my father has changed. How his personality has altered. He's struggles now with the names of our children - he even forgets our names - his own children - sometimes. Dementia is the UKs biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and currently there is no cure. We know it is scary but we must confront the biggest health & social care challenge of our time. We owe it to the 900,000 people across the UK currently living with dementia to campaign for change, whilst providing vital day-to-day support. By taking part and raising money, or donating to someone who is, you are helping to do this.
Once you donate, JustGiving sends your money directly to Alzheimer's Society you don't need to do anything and it's the most efficient way to fundraise. So, who will you walk for? #MemoryWalk
