Story

Our amazing daughter Carina Grace Marcangelo was born on the 13th February 2012. She was taken to the Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea shortly after she was born  for the first two weeks of her life when we first encountered the kindness and support of the Brompton Fountain.

Little did we know that we would return to the hospital 8 months later - this time not for two weeks, but for 6 months. Carina had a very complex heart condition that baffled the doctors at times but after various open-heart surgeries, a heart transplant was her only option. The amazing medical team at the Royal Brompton managed to keep Carina alive whilst we waited for a heart to become available, and there were various times when we nearly lost her. The Brompton Fountain gave us love, support, a place to stay very close to Carina's bed in intensive care and helped us through some of the most difficult times of our lives.

Carina was given the greatest gift imaginable on the 7th April 2013 and received her heart transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Her Donor family gave her a second chance in life, something which we will  be eternally grateful for. Carina was finally allowed home at the end of May 2013 and spend the whole summer at home with her family - getting to spend quality time with her big sister, Emily.

Sadly Carina passed away on the 27th August 2013 and has left a huge void in our lives, however, her legacy lives on - and always will.

The Brompton Fountain continue to support all of our family even now Carina is no longer with us. For this, the Brompton will always have a special place in our hearts. The Brompton Fountain also continue to support us as a family with our ongoing care at this amazing hospital.

We are taking part in this event as a family with our friends, and our Brompton Family to share memories and to do something for our amazing little girl, who lives on in hearts forever, and who is missed every single day.

#CarinasLegacy

Carina's Legacy means raising awareness of organ donation. It is the greatest gift and act of humanity. Without organ donation, we would never have been able to bring Carina home and spend the last precious weeks with her creating memories with her family. If you haven't got round to signing the register, please follow the below simple steps - but most importantly, tell your loved ones your wishes, as they will ultimately have the final say

And finally....something most of us are able to donate now, is our blood. If this is something you have considered in the past and not got round to, please book yourself in, its so easy to do www.blood.co.uk and not scary at all!
