Deafblindness - The loneliest condition in the world - losing both sight and hearing has been described as one of the most challenging experiences a human being can endure.
"Please don't hang up, I was desperate to hear a voice." This was a call we took on our helpline. Another caller told us: "My experience has been like lying in a coffin but still being alive." And another: "For the first time in my life I stood here last night and understood why people take their own lives." These are a few of the things that some of our callers to our helpline have told us!
We can’t even imagine it can we? We can’t give our members their sight and hearing back, but we can give them as much support as we possibly can. There are an estimated 400,000 people in the UK who are deafblind, but we are only reaching 6 in 100!
