Story

When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community. With more donations and support from you, we can rebuild even more lives.

My nephew Daniel Richard Johnson recently passed away after suffering a catastrophic stroke aged only 33 years. A big gentle giant and a father of 7 children he is greatly missed by his family.

I had already been planning this expedition along the 96 miles of the West Highland Way for well over a year - i had intended doing it last year but covid and lockdowns prevented this. I have walked this route twice before and filmed it twice for my youtube channel Carl Johnson Outdoors but those times i had walked it in May. This time will be vastly different. This time i am walking it during mid December. The weather will be much harsher, the daylight hours extremely short and virtually all amenities will be closed for the season. As well as the energy sapping east shore of loch lomond i will face the frozen wastes of Rannoch moor and the Devils staircase at Glencoe. I am prepared for the challenge and hope you will help me raise my target in Daniels memory. To those who do i offer you my sincerest and most heartfelt thanks.
