Carl was born and brought up in Crumpsall, has lived in Manchester City Centre and now lives in Didsbury with his husband Simon and their two dogs Scrappy and Oleg.

A former serviceman in RAF, former fireman, former Lord Mayor of Manchester , he is now LBGT advisor to the Mayor of Greater Manchester.
