Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hello to you all, and for those of you that don’t know me, my name is Carl Eales, married to a wonderful wife (Sian) with two amazing children (Jake aged 16 & Tia aged 11)

Just over a year ago I was diagnosed with Myeloma, (Bone Cancer) as you can imagine it came as BIG shock!.  I have a very active & healthy lifestyle and never thought it could happen to me, how wrong was I.  Cancer has also affected other members of my family (My Father & Sister-in-law) currently they are both undergoing treatment.

At present I am still fit & active with no adverse effects from the disease, they cannot start treating my condition until it becomes aggressive, so like anybody that’s faced with this awful condition I’m trying to do as many things in the healthy time I have left, so one of my hobbies is sailing, I have sailed most of my life, sailing small dinghy’s to large yachts.   I have been given the chance to sail across the Atlantic with Jellyfish Charters, a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, and I am hoping to raise a little money for Cancer Research along the way.   I understand the fund raising will not help me or my family, but if we can help make a difference to others in the future it will be worth it. I’m not an offshore sailor, I do suffer with sea sickness, but this is something I’m going to battle to complete this adventure.

Our first leg of the journey is to sail from Cowes UK. To Gran Canaria,(2000 nautical mile passage)     departing for this leg is 25th Sep 2012. The race across the Atlantic does not start until 25th November, but we have to get the boat across the Bay of Biscay before the bad weather sets in.  The actual race starts 25th November from Gran Canaria, & finishes (before Christmas fingers crossed) at St Lucia.  (2700 nautical mile passage) meaning we will have totalled 4700 nautical miles in all.

I hope you will all be able to follow my progress and I will endeavour to post regular reports on my blog as to our progress so you can see how me and the crew are all getting on.  Lastly if you could also support me with a donation whatever you can afford towards this worthwhile charity I would be very grateful.

Many thanks for taking the time to read my blog and I hope I can count on your support.

BIG THANK YOU!
