We raise funds to provide vital therapy for people with MS

Story

Today I make my just giving page, the reason behind it is to raise awareness and raise money for people with multiple sclerosis. On the 15th of may I will be participating in the Northamptonshire Shires and Spires half-marathon.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is no joke. MS is caused by your immune system attacking your nervous system, it’s a condition that can affect vision, the brain, spinal cord, arm and leg movement, sensation and balance. It is a life lifelong condition that can cause serious disability.

Unfortunately my mum was not so lucky with MS. She was diagnosed at such an early age so I knew no different to my Mumma in the her wheelchair, riding to primary school on her lap on her electric wheel chair thinking it was so cool watching her give my friends laps of Brixworth school playground on the back stumps of her chair, not really understanding the seriousness of what it was or what laid ahead. Life was normal for me, nurses coming and going from the house, hospital visits. As I grew older and watched how ‘MS attacks’ would attack my mum, to watch how she deteriorated I soon realised.

Seeing your mum in intensive care with tubes all in her just because he wanted some sun and got stuck outside (which I might add she never learnt from she loved the sun). Being told every time she got pneumonia that this was it, she could die and yet every time she bounced back. Even when she had her last few days in hospital I didn’t believe them, some part of me thought here we go again we’ll be home tomorrow. Except this that time I was wrong.

To look after your mum, chop up her food, feed her, give her drinks (the sneaky sip of Bacardi and coke), sponge her mouth when it was dry, the walks we were allowed to take, just down the shop and the duck pond.

The last time I fundraised she was alive and couldn’t be prouder. This will be my 5th year without her. That's 5 years without her voice and without her cuddles and guidance.

She had an amazing network around her, my grandparents, the carers that went in daily who not only were her friends but her family also. They made her laugh and smile everyday, joking around and listening to queen on repeat every day.

Even though this disease disabled her body it certainly didn’t disable her spirit and soul.

To be bed bound, PEG fed, for a cuddle you would have to pickup and wrap her arm around you, by the end MS won unfortunately but she NEVER stopped smiling, loving those so close to her. The biggest heart I have ever know.

A great friend to all that knew her, She was a beautiful granddaughter, an amazing daughter to my nan and peter, a great bossy big sister to her brothers. Alex and I could not of been prouder to call her our mum, and max…….she was so proud to be called Nanny Nash, and I know she would be super proud be Nanny Nash to little Maya also. She loved us all so much and we loved her back more.

So here I am on the 5th year of her passing, to raise money for TheBedford and Northamptonshire therapy centre, a centre that relies solely on fundraising, to help those with MS get the support and therapies they need.

The therapies include

.Neuro physiotherapy

.Hydrotherapy and APS pain relief

.Reflexology

.Pilates

.Bowen and oxygen therapy

just to name a few.

The charity was set up in 1983 and was somewhere my mum went for oxygen therapy. I recall being a young age watching my mum being wheeled into a big oxygen chamber like tank, although being young I didn’t take much notice and as playing on the treadmill in the waiting room whilst she had her therapy as this was normal. The charity helps provide therapies, services and the support needed to enable people living with MS to self-manage their condition.

Help me in my fight this year to attack MS like just like it attacks those with it as well as the ones watching their loved ones go through it.

Any donation no matter how big or small helps.

I’ll be training daily and giving reports on my progress as well as attaching my just giving page to it.

If you see me out running give me a wave or a honk!

Thank you mum for being you, you are missed unbelievably

I only have memories and photos left, keep your loved ones close to you and cherish them

EVERY RUN IS A MEMORY OF MUM……….ORANGE FOREVER...

…………and thank you.
