Thanks for taking the time to visit our National Three Peaks Challenge fundraising page!
We are raising money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society hopefully helping to fund essential research into easing the suffering of people with this debilitating disease.
Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological condition in which the protetive coating around the nerves, called myelin, is mistakenly considered a foreign body and attacked by a persons immune system. With the protection gone, damage to the nerves themselves progresses over time, slowing down, or even stopping entirely, communication between the brain and the rest of the body. This causes a range of symptoms that can affect any aspect of life. It is not limited to either mental or physical impairments, it can cause problems with both. Sufferers commonly have problems with speech, sight, balance, dizziness, movement, memory, thinking, swallowing and tremors to name but a few. It currently has no cure and patients have to live with their symptoms gradually deteriorating over the course of many years. A few years ago, Carl's uncle, Tim, was diagnosed with the disease and has seen a rapid deterioration in his quality of life since then, which is why we are raising money.
The National Three Peaks challenge is considered an Extreme Endurance event. In no more than a single 24-hour period, we are to climb the highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales respectively; Ben Nevis in Fort William, Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District, England and Snowden in Snowdonia, Wales. This is a total ascent of around 10,000 ft., a walking distance of approximately 26 miles and a driving distance of 480 miles! Please help us make it worth our while!
