Alzheimer’s disease is best-known and most common cause of dementia and accounts for around two-thirds of cases in the UK.Common symptoms of dementia include the gradual loss of memory, decline in communication skills and difficulty with thinking and reasoning. As the condition progresses many people struggle with everyday tasks such as feeding and dressing themselves. In the later stages they may become unable to move,communicate or swallow and need 24 hour care.Through research , Alzheimer’s Research can better understand the causes of dementia, which is essential for the development of new treatments.
The Team;
Laura Champion “Dementia has taken two of my grandparents, and affects what feels like far too many other people I know. I walk for every one of them. For every lost memory. 100 miles in four days feels pretty daunting, but every step of every single mile of the 100 miles we will walk will be worth it, knowing that the money you help us raise will contribute to the research that’s happening right now to fight back against this awful disease. Let’s help Alzheimer’s UK ‘step’ closer to finding an answer to how we stop dementia in its tracks.”
Carly Morris “My Grandad had vascular dementia, it was heartbreaking to witness. A proud man who served his country , awarded an MBE for his outstanding service, raised a family and explored the world, only to have all his cherished memories taken.We will always remember what a remarkable gentleman he was. I am walking for my Grandad, and for every person who has has suffered or is suffering with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Together we can make a difference by supporting Alzheimers Research.
Louise "Dementia has ‘hit’ three people in my family, my grandmother, my uncle and now my mother. My mother was diagnosed in 2017 at the age of 67. We have noticed a rapid deterioration in her condition, which is devastating. This will be my third fundraiser for Dementia, as I understand that raising funds for research and support for those living with Dementia is crucial . It is a wicked and cruel disease and we need to do as much as we can to help ‘stem’ it’s impact. So please dig deep and support us on our epic trek"
Evie “From a young age, I can only remember my Nan as being nothing but an enthusiastic, and humorous woman with whom I shared holidays to Disneyland, annual camping trips to Trearrdurr Bay and years of Sunday Roasts. It seemed so sudden when we noticed she was losing her fiery spark and could not even control it, but in recent times, we have noticed a heartbreaking deterioration that I wish I could aid. I am walking to bring Alzheimer’s UK a ‘step’ closer to their crucial research into how we can fight this cruel disease.”
Sarah Davies "Having witnessed this awful illness tear families of dear friends apart , I decided to take a stand and walk against Dementia. Please support us in our mission to raise awareness and funds, every message and every penny counts. Thank you for your support."
