Project South Africia 2020 · 26 January 2020

The Footprints Foundation aims to tackle the problems and issues facing disadvantaged and vulnerable young and elderly people, and those people with significant health issues. We aim to support these people during the most trying periods of their lives and help give them the strength and confidence to enjoy a fulfilled life. Our aim is to support through volunteering and hands on help rather than solely providing financial support.

Story

From 11th to 18th October 2023, the team  below will be embarking on a once in a lifetime opportunity to work at the Khaya Centre in Lehae, 30km South of Johannesburg.  The 2020/2021 trip was cancelled due to Covid. The community there do not have access to basic services and have very limited life opportunities. The visiting team will work to train local nurses to assess vision and provide appropriate reading glasses to the local people. Lack of reading  glasses for the over 50's effectively makes them visually impaired. In addition to the reading glasses for the over 50's, younger people will also be assessed. Identifying young people who need glasses and providing the glasses, allows them to make the most of their educational opportunities.  Once the nurses are trained, they will continue to role out this service throughout the rest of the year.  Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
