Rome Marathon (Italy) · 21 March 2010
Hi Everyone!!
Welcome to our sponsorship page in aid of the Helen Rollason Cancer charity and in Memory of our dear Sister Joan(RIP), who past away on 22nd January 2010 & our Aunt Rose Grehan (RIP).
My name is Carmel and I'm from Ireland, but living in London at present.
In 2006 I ran my first marathon in and a 70-year-old man I spoke to during that run stood out for me: he had completed more than 50 marathons and raised thousands for charity. His story really inspired me & changed my life as I felt I could do the same & more importantly wanted to do it. So I made a promise to myself that day, that for every year I’m alive I’d run a marathon in a different country and just be grateful to be able to have such great health to help others.”
Since then I've ran 3 marathons. Rome will be my 4th, please God. I've ran the Dublin marathon twice and once with two sisters Mary & Majella, which was a wonderful journey! Once again I've persuaded Majella to take to the streets of Rome with me on Sunday March 21st.
Majella and I are running this special marathon for two reasons:
First is for our beautiful sister Joan who is such an inspiration to us in life, as her disability NEVER stopped her from living her life to the full. She continues to inspire us very much today and will always do so for everyday of our lifes. If you were lucky enough to have known our sister Joan, then you would have known the wonderful lady she was and how she lived everyday to the full and never once complaining.
Second reason we're running is for the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity. Aunty Rose (RIP) & her daughter Marie have worked alongside this charity for years and help raise £££'s for cancer sufferers & told me about the wonderful work they do.
So many people we know have been affected by cancer. Both our own parents have been affected by it in the last few years, so it definitely makes a 26.2 mile run worth the pain and the aching muscles when you know you’re running for something close to your heart & in memory of two such wonderful woman that we were so blessed to have known. So it really is an honour to be running with one of my sisters for the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity in memory of our lovely sister Joan and dearest Aunt Rose. (We miss you both so very much, and carry you both in our hearts each day. We love you so much and will never forget you both ) We'd finally like to Thank each and every one of you who have sponsored us, as it means so much to us both. Your generosity & kindness is really appreciated and believe me when I say ,that each penny or £££'s goes along way to help cancer sufferers. So thanks to you all or as we say in Ireland "Go raibh Mile mile maith agat " Love to you all Carmel & Majella xxxxxx
