Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Let me tell you our story;

Mum was an amazing Lady and coped remarkably when we lost Dad . When she was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer, she was referred to the DMH, she didn't want any more treatment just TLC and time to enjoy life.

The DMH gave her that in abundance, first through the day centre facility and as time passed rest bite and finally end of life care. She loved going there, says she was treated like royalty with 5 star service. The amazing staff not only supported Mum but our family too.

The journey was long and hard, Mum stayed strong through out. Her courage inspired everyone around her. We found strength through her to celebrate life .We had fun despite her illness, we laughed, we cried and made memories. At all times the DMH were there, supporting and caring for both Mum and our family.

Mums journey inspired me to challenge myself and fund raise for the DMH. My past challenges include; 3 peaks, midnight walk, 5K etc.

This year I am thrilled to take part in the Dog Sledding Challenge run by Charity Challenge. I will be;

- Taking charge of and looking after my own set of dogs. Sledding for around 5-7 hours per day.

- Covering almost 200KM across 5 days of Hiking, using my core strength to control the Sled.

-Sleeping in temp that can reach -40 Celsius, in basic wilderness cabins, with outside toilets and no electric

 My journey has started, I am on a healthy diet, the training regime is underway and preparing for the challenge of a lifetime.

Every step of the way I will be taking inspiration from my amazing Mum, the wonderful team at the DMH and of course my beloved Dad John and Nana Pat, who were also a huge part of childhood and who I miss greatly.
