Dad had dementia, it was heartbreaking watching him deteriorate.
I made a promise to Dementia UK that I would raise some money to help in the fight to improve the lives of people with this dreadful condition and so I have decided to join the Human Race open water swim from Hampton Court Bridge to Kingston Bridge on Sunday July 21st.
Some of you already know that I have twice donned 3 wetsuits, plus hat gloves and boots, of the wetsuit variety, and ventured into the river Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues in Germany at the beginning of December, which is the start of their Christmas celebrations. BUT this was for 'fun' and not charity AND I didn't need to put my face in the water! In the Mosel we kick a mile on our backs carrying a lighted flare in one hand and and a cup of gluwein in the other whilst escorting St Nicholas into the town.
In July it will be 2.25 miles front crawl, trying not to swallow any of the Thames (did you see the recent news article on last year's swim and that dreaded Thames tummy.........?!)
I'd like the challenge, I certainly won't win, but I'd like to complete the course. Dad started me on my 'swimming journey' 50 years ago this year in the old Kingston baths, so on this Golden Anniversary can I ask you to support me in this?
