Story
I've accepted the fact that I'm not able to do any of my mad 26 mile challenges this year but I feel like I must do something so I'm joining the Pretty Muddy event on Cancer Research UK's Race for Life this year.
My story
I was rushed into hospital in December with Ischaemic Colitis and during the CT scan a large tumour (Tiberius) was discovered on my left kidney. I had to have my kidney out at the end of January. The cancer was contained and they are keeping an close eye on a lung nodule. Although I've had two life threatening illnesses in the past 6 months, I feel incredibly lucky to be alive. The cancer has been caught early so I have a good chance of it not returning. 60 -70% of people with kidney cancer caught at my stage survive more than 5 years so its pretty good news. Even though I've had a horrendous few months, Tiberius is no more and I'm here.
Many people aren't quite so lucky as me. Kidney Cancer is a hidden killer as you don't normally get symptoms until it's too late and I've met many wonderful people who are in a far worse position than me.
I'm not a typical Kidney Cancer victim - cancer can be as random as hell. Unlucky to get it, but lucky it was caught early.
Every little bit you are able to donate will help towards finding cures, early detection and stopping this terrible disease wrecking so many lives.
The NHS have been brilliant throughout this and I have an amazing group of friends who are joining me in this event.
Thank you to everyone.
