Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This December, alongside my colleagues from the Royal Free dementia group, I will be running through Victoria Park dressed like Santa trying to raise money for our dementia appeal.

Every month, hundreds of patients living with dementia are admitted to one of our 3 major hospital sites. Hospital can be a frightening place for a person with dementia to be and often, the noisy and hectic ward environment can make the symptoms of dementia worse.

Many patients are admitted without basic clothing or toiletries. When they are being treated on the ward, many of them can't afford a newspaper or bar of chocolate. Often, patients can sit all day in their chairs or lay in bed with nothing to do. Boredom and anxiety can cause patients with dementia to become lonely, isolated and withdrawn.

We know that small gestures make a huge difference to our patients. Whether that's buying them a newspaper, having CDs to play for them or painting their nails and doing their hair, your donation will go straight into our dementia appeal fund to buy resources and activities that make a big difference to someone who is feeling scared and lonely. It's often said that hospital is the worst place to be for a person with dementia but we don't think it has to be that way. Please help us to create moments of joy and kindness by going the extra mile for the people who need it the most.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
