Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Dad’s JustGiving page.

After sadly losing our beloved Mum to Cancer in 2013, we didn't think life could get much more challenging for Dad. We were wrong.

In 2017 Dad was diagnosed with aggressive Prostate Cancer & underwent 8 gruelling weeks of daily radiotherapy. How Dad coped with his diagnosis and treatment was admirable and I’m pleased to say he has remained in remission ever since. In February last year however, whilst out walking in Norfolk, he suffered a catastrophic heart attack. This came completely out the blue, but thanks to the swift and professional actions of both the paramedics who were called and all the NHS staff at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and their Critical Cardiac Team, he pulled through and made a remarkable recovery. With ongoing help and support from both the NHS and his family, Dad has taken all of this in his stride and has been doing really well.

Like so many others, Dad is in lockdown on his own. But he hasn’t let that stop him from making the most of things. Since the start of lockdown, he has been out walking A LOT. As a family, this has made us all really happy, as it’s the perfect exercise for him to help continue to re-build his health and fitness. Dad has very much been inspired by Colonel Tom Moore and the amazing support he has received in raising funds for the NHS. As Dad’s way of repaying the NHS for all their hard work, especially over the last 5 years for him personally, he wished to commit to walking 5km every day, for the rest of lockdown (or until he reaches 500km), which for him, is likely to be a long time. That’s the equivalent of walking from London to Edinburgh!! I think for most of us, walking 5km a day would be a great achievement. But for someone who recently turned 81 (in April), who also suffers with COPD and who has come through some major medical events in recent times, I’d say it’s astonishing.

Dad’s original target was £500, which he smashed in the first few days! It was then raised to £1,000, which got smashed in 24hrs! So his NEW target is £2,000. Come wind, rain or shine he is determined to keep on track!

Thank you for taking the time to read about our superhero Dad & if you feel you’d like to show your support, please donate and SHARE ☺️🙏🏻🌈
