In May I'm walking 100 km - 66 miles - from Felixstowe to Lowestoft to raise money for Woodbridge's wonderful youth charity Just 42. I'm fit but fat and I'll get blisters, but it will be worth it. Just 42 are amazing. Please help me to help them!
I will be walking with Just 42's fundraiser Julia Hancock (https://www.justgiving.com/LandguardtoLowestoft )and her dog Celine (http://www.justgiving.com/Celine-the-dog) - and we are all hoping you will sponsor all of us as much as you can - though we cruelly overrode Celine's plea that she could be sponsored in dog-chews. Sorry Celine. Next time. Possibly.
So what's so great about Just 42? Every week they work with 460 children in 26 clubs across 18 locations in Woodbridge and 9 outlying villages. In fact the group covers 400 sq miles of rural countryside - bringing mobile youth clubs out to places where there is no transport whatsoever. People who live in urban areas, think of that. The young people Just 42 supports deal with: disaffection, rural isolation, bullying, low self-esteem, special educational needs, drug/alcohol abuse, complex family issues, school exclusion and criminal behaviour.
The results and outcomes are spectacular: engaging 2,300 different young people per year through weekly clubs, sports coaching, mentoring groups and school assemblies. Just 42 embrace the most disadvantaged or excluded, and those with special needs, giving support, advice and help to encourage (often very needy and disadvantaged) young people to succeed and fulfil their potential.
And Just 42 is not only doing this well and effectively - it is doing it on a shoestring! After recent cuts Just 42 remain the only such group left in our part of Suffolk and its valuable work is funded entirely by donations. Please dig deep and help them carry on helping the young people in rural Suffolk
