Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have been given an amazing opportunity to join a relay team of six to swim across the English Channel. We will each swim for one hour and repeat in order until we reach France. This will be a huge challenge for me which is scary and exciting at the same time.
I live by the sea in Scarborough and consider myself lucky to be able to swim in the sea all year round. I will need to train hard in the pool in addition to the sea over the coming months. I will also need to say goodbye to my wetsuit to enable me to acclimatise to the sea temperature as the Channel swim rules stipulate no wetsuit.
Whilst taking on this challenge I am raising money for Aspire, a charity that provides support to people who have been paralysed from a spinal cord injury.
Personal and professional experience has taught me that life can change in an instant. Spinal injury is life changing and every four hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury.
Aspire visits newly injured patients in hospital to offer support and advice, and point them to services such as Aspire Housing, which is a temporary assessible housing solution. Additionally, Aspire train people, regardless of their level of injury, to use computers with the aid of Assistive Technology, and provide benefits advice ensuring people receive the benefits they are legally entitled to.
Thank you so much for your support. The next few months will undoubtedly have its highs and lows. But as I train to achieve my goal, I will be motivated by thinking about my fellow relay team members, their goals, and the potential to change the lives of others through the funds I raise.
